Er ist da: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8
Nur 2 Jahre nachdem Dodge das Challenger Concept auf der 2006 Detroit Auto Show vorgestellt hat, ist er nun bereit für die Straße. Der Challenger wurde bekannt und hat sich einen Namen gemacht, in den 60igern und wurde bis in die frühen 80iger gebaut. Dieses mal geht Chrysler wieder zurück zu seinen Wurzeln und veröffentlicht dieses großartige Muscle Car, rear-wheel-drive Coupe! Die ersten Modelle werden exclusiv als 6,1l HEMI V8 ausgeliefert und es werden noch in diesem Jahr 6400 Stück gebaut. Basierend auf der aktuellen LX Plattform (Dodge Charger, 300C und Co.) von Chrysler, kommt der neue Challenger schon sehr dem Concept Car nahe. Die größten äusseren Unterschiede sind wohl der neue Grill und die Frontlippe unterhalb der Stoßstange, ausserdem der kleine schwarze Heckspoiler welcher sich gut ans Gesamtbild einfügt. Nur im Innenraum gibt sich Chrysler wiedermal mit dem Bekannten zufrieden und verzichtet auf Innovationen.
Für das Modelljahr 2008 werden 6400 Stück gebaut in Form des SRT-8, er wird einen 6,1l HEMI V8 haben mit 425PS. Es werden 20″ Goodyear F1 Reifen montiert mit 245/45 vorn und 255/45 hinten. Der Preis für den SRT-8 wird ab $37.995 betragen, jedoch sind bereits fast 10000 Vorbestellungen eingegangen, sprich es werden wohl hohe Aufschläge von Seiten der Händler kommen.
Für des Modelljahr 2009 wird es zusätzlich einen 5,7l HEMI V8 geben und auch einen V6. Ein Tremec 6 Gang Schaltgetriebe wird es ebenso ab 2009 zur Wahl geben.

With a U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $37,995 (including $675 destination), the all-new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 arrives in Dodge showrooms this spring.
The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 vehicles will be manufactured at Chrysler’s Brampton, Ontario, Canada assembly plant.
Performance targets for the all-new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 include a 0–60 mph time in the low 5-second range, 0–100–0 mph in less than 17 seconds, a ¼-mile elapsed time of less than 14 seconds, 60–0 mph braking distance of approximately 100 feet, and a skid pad performance of 0.88 g.
